Two Vietnamese arrested for shoplifting spree

Ginowan Police arrested two unemployed Vietnamese men on Jan 6th on suspicion of theft.

One of them, a 23-year-old man, has admitted to the charges, but the other, a 27-year-old man insists, “I have shoplifted things but do not remember the place where I did steal those things,” and has denied a part of the charges.

According to police, both men had repeatedly stolen makeup products and over-the-counter medicines at drug stores at various parts of the island between April 2014 and July 2015. Police has identified 18 cases of thefts by the men. The value of the stolen products amounts to a total of about ¥1.57 million.

Another Vietnamese man who has been working as a technical trainee intern in the Aichi Prefecture was also arrested in connection with the case. He is suspected of buying the stolen merchandise from the two men in Okinawa, and selling the products on the Internet.
