A farm worker accidentally fell into an irrigation pond and drowned in the Okayo district of Motobu Town, Wednesday.

According to Motobu Police, a male emergency caller informed police about 1 p.m. Wednesday that a man, with whom the caller had been working, might have fallen into an agricultural irrigation pond.

A rescue team dispatched to the scene searched the pond, and found a 60-year-old part time worker from Nago City in the bottom of the pond. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The pond where the accident occurred is rectangular, 40-meter wide, 15-meter long and 1.8-meter deep.
