Ryudai measures noise from U.S. military aircraft

Takeshi Tokashiki, an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of the Ryukyus, measured noise levels during the entrance examinations of the university on Feb. 25th and 26th.

According to the Tokashiki’s measurements, the noise level of more than 65 dB was measured more than 20 times due to flights of the U.S. jet fighters and other aircraft.

University officials say they every year ask the U.S. Military to avoid training flights during the time of the entrance tests. Tokashiki measured the noise levels with instruments set on the roof of the Faculty of Engineering Building. He measured the noise from 14 U.S. Military aircraft between 09:00 and 18:10 on Feb. 25th and six times on Feb. 26th. Tokashiki said the U.S. Marine Corps’ Osprey aircraft caused the loudest noise.
