Woman dies in snorkeling accident off Sunabe coast
An American woman who was snorkeling was found in cardiac and respiratory arrest about 400 meters offshore north of Sunabe coast in Chatan Sunday afternoon.
The woman, identified as 66-year-old Debra Jean, a counselor on MCAS Futenma, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead about 17:55 on the same day.
According to Okinawa City Police, one of her co-workers who had been snorkeling with her, found her floating face up in cardiac and respiratory arrest. The waves were high at the time. The police is investigating the cause of the accident.
