Sanshin Day performance held at Schwab Gate
Today is ‘Sanshin Day,’ Mar. 4. Early this morning about 30 people played Sanshin on the street in front of the Camp Schwab main gate and with sun shining, more than 100 people performed a traditional Ryukyu dance ‘Kagiyade-fu’ that is usually danced in festive occasions like wedding receptions.
While the dance performance was going on, the riot police intervened and removed some of the dancers from the gate to make space for six construction trucks to enter into the base.
The annual Sanshin Day event at Otori Hall in Yomitan Village started at noon. At that event, sanshin players and dancers are scheduled to perform ‘Kagiyade-fu’ every hour.
