A large number of small striped mullet-like fish, called ‘bora’ in Japanese, was found dead in a river in Kawata, Uruma City, Monday.

The Prefectural Chubu Regional Welfare and Public Health Center is conducting an urgent investigation to determine the cause of the mass death of the fish. Government officials have taken water samples from the site. So far, the cause is unclear.

According to Uruma City officials, there seems to be several thousands of the dead fish spread over a stretch of several hundred meters down the stream.
