U.S. Navy sailor indicted for raping tourist
The Naha District Public Prosecutors Office indicted U.S. Navy sailor Justin Castellanos on Friday. He had been arrested Mar. 13th after he allegedly raped a Japanese tourist from Fukuoka he had found passed out in a hotel hallway,
Castellanos reportedly admitted to the charge when questioned, although he had initially denied the rape.
The incident had prompted a large demonstration in front of the main gate of Camp Schwab, and the top U.S. commander on Okinawa to visit Okinawa Governor Takashi Onaga to apologize. The Okinawa Prefectural Assembly also approved a resolution to protest the rape demanding tighter discipline among the U.S. forces stationed on the island.
