An Urasoe City Police patrol car spotted a moped-type bike with a driver without a helmet early Sunday morning in the Takushi district of Urasoe, and started to give a chase.

As soon as the patrol car started the chase and the driver of the moped heard the siren, she lost her balance, the bike hit the curb and crashed into a utility pole on the side of the road. The driver was immediately taken to an emergency hospital.

The driver turned out to be a 16-year-old girl who doesn’t have a driver’s license. She suffered severe injuries on her back, legs, and chest, and had to have an emergency operation at the hospital.

According to police, she is currently in a stable condition, and her injuries are not life threatening.
