U.S. Military lifts servicemen’s drinking ban
The U.S. military has lifted a ban on drinking that was in force originally through Jun. 24 and later extended to Jun. 28th.
The order to ban off-base drinking for all U.S. servicemen in the prefecture was introduced to strengthen discipline following the rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman, allegedly by a civilian base worker Kenneth Franklin Shinzato.
The period for mourning that was declared after the murder ended also on Jun. 28th. A curfew also imposed following the incident is now in effect from 01:00 to 05:00.
