How many of us have not dreamed of operating a real backhoe?

A special event for children is scheduled to take place at Haebaru Central Community Center on July 18. The event is called Kid’s Park, and the idea is to give the children an opportunity to try different professions in as realistic setting as possible.

The event takes place on Monday, July 18, which is the Ocean Day, a Japanese National Holiday meaning that there’s no school.

Shooting a water cannon is as exciting as it sounds.

During the day, participating kids can try many kinds of jobs, such as a doctor, nurse, baker, hairdresser, fire fighter, police and reporter. They can wear a white coat of a doctor or nurse, or a firefighters’ outfit and blast an imaginary fire with a water cannon among others.

The profession make-believe events are designed for children up to junior high school age. The programs start at 10:00 and each try-out lasts about one hour.

To begin with, children who want to try professions have to go to a reception desk near the community center entrance. There they first tell what they want to try, pay a reasonable fee and are given letter of introduction for a job, after which they can start working on the job that they are interested in.

When all is done, the children get a ticket for a workshop that include balloon art, toy making, petting zoo, and more. All jobs and workshops have their own time schedules and some are limited to certain ages. The reception desk at the entrance has all the information.

The event runs from 10:00 to 17:00, and there are food vendors who ensure that no on leaves early because of becoming hungry.

Parking by the venue is limited, but additional parking is available at Haebaru Town Office and Haebaru Elementary School field.
