Friendship on LINE leads to attempted murder

A friendship between two young women that they struck using a popular communications app LINE turned sour after the women met in person, and started an argument that ended with one woman stabbing the other.

According to Naha Police, 22-year-old Saori Yamashiro from Higashiyama in Ishikawa, Uruma City, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after she stabbed a 20-year-old woman from Naha City after an argument.

Investigators say, the two had become acquainted through a social network site, started to communicate using the LINE communications app, and eventually decided to meet. However, the meeting did not go well and the two ended up in an argument while sitting in Yamashiro’s car that was parked on a road in Mihama about 1:15 a.m. on Monday.

As the argument escalated, Yamashiro allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the younger woman, who was sitting on the back seat of Yamashiro’s car, on her left breast.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital but her injuries are not life threatening. Yamashiro was arrested on the spot. Reportedly, the two women had not met before in person.

Police continue investigating the motive and other details that led to the attack. Yamashiro reportedly claims that the younger woman started the argument, and denies intending to kill her.
