Heshikiya man arrested for hit and run and DUI
Uruma Police arrested Saturday evening a 35-year-old man from Heshikiya, Uruma City, on suspicion of a hit and run while driving under influence.
According to police, a car driven by Yoshiaki Nishishinyashiki hit a 68-year-old man who was crossing the road at Henna in Katsuren. After the accident, Nishishinyashiki failed to stop at the scene of the accident, and drove away.
Based on a statement of an eyewitness, a police patrol spotted Nishishiyashiki’s car about 3 kilometers away in Akichi and stopped him. A subsequent breathalyzer test showed he had 5 times the legal limit of alcohol in his breath and he was arrested.
The elderly victim suffered subarachnoid bleeding and broke his right shoulder, but none of his injuries is life threatening.
