Man suffers shark bite off Miyako Island shore

The Miyako Island Water Accident Prevention Association announced Nov. 17th that a 65-year-old man had suffered a shark bite when he was fishing for octopus near Kurima Bridge in the afternoon of the previous day.

The man was slightly injured on his right foot, but the wound is not life threatening.

According to the association, the man was bitten about 100 meters east of the Kurima Bridge, just 20 meters off shore. The victim says the shark was about 2 meters long. The association has sent a warning notice to hotels near the site.

Another shark sighting off Sunayama Beach on Miyako was reported on Oct. 25th.
