17-year-old boy killed in motorbike accident

Two high school students riding on a 125cc motorbike crashed into a streetlight pole while driving on Highway 58 in Minatogawa, Urasoe City, early Wednesday morning.

17-year-old Wataru Hirakawa 17 from Oroku, Naha City, hit his head hard and was transferred to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. He was confirmed dead in the hospital 30 minutes later.

The other person on the same bike was a 17-year-old high school girl aged from Urasoe who suffered visceral injuries but survives.

According to Urasoe Police, the site is a straight road with three traffic lanes each way. Reportedly, the bike hit the curb for an unknown reason and fell crashing into the streetlight pole. Urasoe Police continues investigating the cause of the accident.
