Women’s National Softball Team training in Yomitan
The Japan Women’s National Softball Team arrived at Yomitan Village Thursday to start training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The training camp is the team’s first since Reika Utsuki took over as the team manager in November. 26 women players participate in the camp including Yukiko Ueno and Natsuko Sugama.
At the camp opening reception, Utsuki stated, “We are going to start our training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games here at Yomitan Village. We would like to do our best to win the gold medal at the games.”
The training will be based on the Yomitan Heiwa no Mori Baseball Stadium and continue through Dec. 22.
This is the first time the national team trains in Yomitan. Many representatives including the village mayor and staff from the local tourism association attended the reception. Local products like ham, awamori, beer, pork, tuna, and purple potato sweets were given as gifts to the team.
