Awamori gets theme song

The Okinawa Awamori Distillers’ Association presemted Monday a theme song titled “Moriagarou!” (Cheer up!) composed by a popular local band Kiiyama Shoten.

According to the association, they decided to commission the song to boost Okinawan Awamori industry that has seen its sales to decline for the past 12 consecutive years. The song is an up-tempo piece with lyrics naming 46 Awamori distillers and famous brands in Okinawa.

The association plans to make a promotion video with the song and upload it on YouTube in order to spread and popularize Awamori. They hope people to become familiar with the names of the distillers and brands from the song. “Air Man,” a well known choreographer will design the dance moves for the video. The aim is to promote the Okinawa’s tipple especially to younger generations.

A second song and promotion video titled “Otoko no namida to Awamori to” (With man’s tears and Awamori) is also in the works for the association. Both songs will be available on the Internet in the end of June.

The association is seeking actors and actresses for the videos. The deadline is June 15, and the PV is scheduled to be shot mid July and completed by mid August.
