Elderly man, woman robbed at knifepoint in Okinawa City

A man broke into a private house in Hiyane, Okinawa City, around 10:20 p.m. Friday and threatened a 88-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man with a knife demanding money.

The people in the house handed him ¥10,000 in cash, and he ran away.

Okinawa City Police is searching for the man, but he had not been found.

The site of the robbery is a quiet residential housing area. The man who was threatened said, “He thrust at me a knife with about 25-centimeter-long blade, and I panicked. He did not hide his face, but I have never seen the man before.”

According to Police, the robber seemed to be in his 50’s and is medium built. He asked for money in Okinawan dialect. He wore a black shirt and trousers, and had a straw hat on his head.

The threatened man made an emergency call about eight minutes after the incident occurred. Neither of the victims was injured.
