U.S. airman arrested on DUI, hit and run suspicion

Kadena Police arrested a 24-year-old airman Monday on suspicion of a hit-and-run. He is also suspected of having been under influence when the accident happened.

According to police, SSgt Miguel Garza stationed in Kadena Air Base is suspected of rear-ending a car that was stopped at a traffic light on Highway 58 in Yomitan about 1:15 a.m. on Monday, and then drove away from the accident site. The 34-year-old female driver the car suffered a minor whiplash on her neck.

Police arrested Garza at his home about an hour after the accident after getting his address from the U.S. Military Police.

As they arrested Garza, police conducted a breathalyzer test that detected about four times the legal limit of alcohol in his breath, and are conducting an additional investigation on a charge of drunk driving.

Garza has reportedly admitted to the charges.
