A seasonal rain front moving into the Okinawa area caused heavy rains on the main island Wednesday. Especially in the north part of Okinawa, it rained heavily that caused landslides, but there has been no reports of damage to people or buildings.

According to Okinawa Meteorological Observatory, the 24-hour rainfall in Kunigami Village was 470.5 mm as of 5:10 p.m. Nago City had 311 mm by 5:50 p.m., and Higashi Village 262.5 mm. All three were the most ever for Jun since the observatory started taking statistics. The observatory also issued a landslide warming to Nago City Wednesday morning.

The heavy rain caused landslides in Sedake, Nago City, and Ginama, Kunigami Village. In a forested area of Nago City, a hillslope fell down about 15 meters, and the landslide ripped off of crash barriers at the bottom of the hill. In the woodlands of Kunigami Village, a 10-meter-high hillslope fell down scattering soil all over a road. In Higashi Village, a large landslide occurred along national road 331, and one kilometer of the road was closed.

However, there was no damage report, and a detour for residents was established quickly.
