All-round bus service passes available for tourists

“Okinawa Rosen Kankou Katsuyou Senryaku Kaigi,” an association of four Okinawan bus companies, Okinawa Urban Monorail, and JTB Okinawa, held Thursday a press conference at the Naha City Office to announce an agreement to start selling a pass for tourists valid on all Okinawa bus routes and the Naha Urban Monorail. The venture is the first collaboration of the companies to sell all-round passes.

Passes include one valid on regular bus routes, while the Yui Rail Plus ticket allows for unlimited trips on the Okinawa Urban Monorail. Both one and three-day passes are available. The price for the one-day bus service pass is ¥3,000 for adults, and ¥1,500 for children. The prices include tax. Only tourists can buy the passes, and they are required to show their airline tickets when purchasing.

This new service aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion on the island caused by the increase in the number of private tourists using rented cars. The pass will be available at the information counters at Naha Airport in both domestic and international terminals, JTB Tourist Information Center, and T Galleria Okinawa tax free shop. From the middle of August, passes will also be available at some branch offices of local bus companies.
