World flyweight champion Higa to defend his title in Okinawa

World Boxing Council flyweight world champion Daigo Higa will defend his title for the 2nd time in a match scheduled for Feb. 4th at Okinawa Budokan in Onoyama, Naha.

In the fight he will face Moises Fuentes Rubio of Mexico, who held the WBO minimumweight title from 2011 to 2013 and the WBO interim junior flyweight title from 2013 to 2014.

Higa and Yokou Gushiken, the chairman of the gym Higa represents, held a press conference o announce the fight on Des. 26th in Tokyo.

The match will be the first world championship boxing match in Okinawa since 1981 when Gushiken lost his 14th match defending his title.

At the press conference, Higa said, “I have thought that my defense of the title should be held in Okinawa one day, and this will be the day.” He promised his mentor Gushiken to win the match by a knockout.
