Uraniwa resort restaurant reopens

Uraniwa Restaurant is back in business after being destroyed by typhoon Bolawen.

Uraniwa resort restaurant was a popular Balinese restaurant until destroyed August 26th by Typhoon Bolaven crashing into Okinawa, and now the teamwork of fellow businesses has helped it reopen.

After Uraniwa collapsed, staff members worked together to restore the restaurant, which is located in front of Kafuu Resort Fuchaku Condo and Hotel. Uraniwa has now reopened to the public.

Dining at Uraniwa gives visitors a sense of spending time at a luxurious Asian resort. Choose fresh fish from the showcase and they will cook the fish any style you like. Various Okinawan fusion cuisine and drinks are also available. Live performances of sanshin, an Okinawan three-stringed instrument, take place Monday through Wednesday. A  live show of djembe, or African drums, is held on Friday, and acoustic guitar on Saturday and Sunday.

Fresh fried shrimp with chili mayonnaise sauce is recommended. Uraniwa serves Okinawan premium meat such as Ishigaki Beef, fresh fish and Thai cuisine. All you can drink menus with various drink selections including original Awamori cocktails are available starting from ¥4,200.

To get to the new and remodeled restaurant, take Route 58 north and take a right at the signboard of Kafuu Resort. The new location will be on the right hand side.

Many typhoons have hit Okinawa this year, the latest being Typhoon Jelawat with its Super Typhoon status most of the way to Okinawa before landing as a Category 3 storm with 130+mph winds.   On average, 27 typhoons occur every year on north-western Pacific area, and 6.7 of them hit Okinawa, mostly in August. The largest typhoon ever recorded hit Miyako Island on September 4th ~ 6th in 1966. Its highest speed was 85.3 m/s (190mph) and is still has the highest record in the history of Japan.
