JAXA space communication site opens to public Saturday

The space communication site of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA, is opening to the public Saturday for a Space Day.

For the Space Day in Japan, the Space Communication Center in Onna village opens the facility to public 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Entry to the event is free.

The event offers some trial experiences, like the experience of wearing a spacesuit to a limited number of visitors on first-come-first-served basis, GPS assisted treasure hunt, badge making, presentations of a parabola antenna, and kids’ examinations for astronaut (in Japanese only) career.

There is no parking lot at the Space Communication Site, so visitors are asked to park at Okinawa Kenmin no Mori Park, and take a shuttle bus from there to the venue.  Programs will be offered as follows:

• Kids test examination for astronaut career: 10 a.m. ~ (5 times) and 1:30 p.m. ~ (5 times)

There is no booking system, please come and enjoy a event.

Shuttle buses between Kenmin no Mori parking lot and the venue run at 10 minute intervals, and last departure is 3 p.m.

The Space Center has several important prohibitions against bringing any food or drinks or pets.  Be aware that there is no place to eat at the venue.
