Open-air concert slated Sunday at Futenma Shrine

The Okinawa Philharmonic Orchestra will be in full swing Sunday, performing a variety of music at Futenma Shrine.

The Sunday musicale is a pre-event for the 4th Futenma Festival coming up on October 7th.  The Okinawa Philharmonic was formed in 2005 by the alumni from the University of the Ryukyus.  The orchestra will be playing this weekend for both parents and children.  The Futenma Shrine venue opens at 3:30 p.m. for the 4 p.m. concert.

Orchestra officials say they will perform several classical music pieces such as Pachelbel’s Canon, movie themes from Lupin the 3rd, Hayao Miyazaki’s Ghibli movie, and others. In addition, songs for children will be prepared, including Okinawan old children songs, Ryujin Mabuya, and so on, creating an . event to be enjoyed by all ages.

A wine shop in Futenma sells wine and soft drinks at the Shrine, making it possible to enjoy the good music with a glass of wine, while playing with your children.

Admission fee is free. Preschool children can enter with adults. If it rains, the concert will take place in main hall in Futenma Shrine.
