Niigata produce and tourism exhibition at Ryubo
Niigata Prefecture is promoting its products and tourism facilities on the sixth floor of Ryukyu Department Store in Naha through Monday. The fair is open daily from 10:30 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. except on the last day when it closes at 5 p.m. admission to the event is free.
What is the main product on Japan in the fall? Of course it’s rice! And Niigata, known as the best rice producer in Japan brings fresh and great-tasting rice to the venue. Those who want to have a taste of this year’s harvest right on the spot, the vendors have fresh Onigiri rice balls available at the fair.
Rice is also the ingredient of Japanese Sake. Great rice makes great sake, and that’s why Niigata is famous for production of premium brand Japanese sake.
Other seasonal choices of food from Niigata are Japanese persimmons, pears, mushrooms, lotus and much more. Especially, a variety of taro called “Kinuotome” is considered very special because they were given as a tribute in the ceremony of the emperor’s inauguration.
Of course, not only agricultural produce, but also harvest from the sea is on sale, like seaweed bento box or salted salmon. Hand-fried plump squid is on sale in Ryubo for the first time.
A tea house is also set up on the exhibition floor, where visitors can eat Niigata ramen or soba noodles.
Other Niigata products seldom seen in Okinawa include furniture
made of paulownia, for which the prefecture is famous.
Those purchasing merchandise totaling ¥3,000 or more at the exhibition, can take part in a raffle and win Niigata products as a prize
