Sweets & Tourism Symposium adopts mainland concept

It does not get any sweeter than this! Urasoe Cty is hosting a Sweeta & Tourism Symposium, Monday, in order to explore creating new concepts to attract visitors.

Urasoe City is hosting a Sweets & Tourism Symposium Monday to introduce a new sightseeing promotion concept to Okinawa Prefecture.

The afternoon symposium is based on a sweets promotion developed by the Jiyugaoka Shopping Center Promotion Association in Tokyo, explaining the notion of town renaissance by sweets, and examples of product development in business offices in Tokyo.  Included in the 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. symposium will be a sampling part of sweets.

The original Jiyugaoka Sweets Forest, a sweets complex established in the Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, where many sweets stores have sat together since 2003, is now transformed to a mecca for sweets.  Okinawa’s plan at the Tedako Hall City Exchange Room, 1-9-3 Nakama, Urasoe City, will be unveiled free of charge to visitors.  The event is sponsored by the Urasoe City Tourism Association.

Okinawa envisions patterning its own Sweets & Tourism program along the same line as at Jiyugaoka Station.  That location is packed with cafes, chocolatiers, patisseries, bakeries, traditional Japanese sweet shops and even a couple of specialty pie shops.  As all is in a single location, it’s a ‘one-stop-shop’ for sweet treats, making it a quick jaunt in and out.  Some stores and shops are open 10 a.m. ~ 8 p.m. in Tokyo, and one or two even later.

No word yet on exactly where Urasoe City envisions building this sweet locale, or who the stores and shops will be.  Hints may come on Monday the 18th.
