Materials and design have developed by the climate and living conditions.

Okinawans call them ‘life tools’, traditional tools, equipment and material that have been a part of local culture for centuries.

Nippon Vision Gallery in Ginowan is now selling these “mingu” Okinawan articles that were used by Okinawans in the past, and have been made part of everyday life by the climate.  There are strong baskets of bracken, strong enough to ward off water and found useful in moist Okinawa and northern countries.  There’s also a straw raincoat for warding

The Mingu are available for viewing at the Nippon Vision Gallery, on the second floor of the D & Department Okinawa, 2-39-8 Aragusuku.  It’s the same building as Café Unizon, just across the fence of Futenma Housing and the New U.S. Naval Hospital.  There’s free parking in front.  It run through March 5^th 11:30 a.m. ~ 7:30 p.m., and is closed on Wednesdays.  Admission is free.
