Multinational Gospel Concert set for Convention Center
The “Hear My Voice” Gospel Music Concert is coming to the Okinawa Convention Center, complete with a 50-voice multinational gospel choir and a Japanese cast of actors and singers.
The April 28th concert is sponsored by Okinawa Gospel Academy, an organization with the purpose of building international friendships in the community through promotion of gospel events. Although the concert is still three weeks away, organizers anticipate 1,000+ to attend. Tickets are now on sale at Family Mart e+, http://eplus.jp, Lawson L-code 85131, and Co-op Apple Store. Advance adult tickets are ¥2,500, or ¥3,000 at the door, and elementary school children tickets are ¥1,500. Kids of kindergarten age and younger are free.
This musical concert will be a very unique experience for Okinawa according to OGA director, Wesley Barnes.
“With the popularity of gospel stage plays in the USA at an all time high, we want Okinawa to also enjoy these inspirational musical events in their own language.” The musical will feature special guest performances by dynamic gospel vocalist, A. C. McClendon III and local gospel songstress, Yoko Kelly. Enjoy great contemporary and traditional gospel titles including a popular gospel favorite, “His Eye is on the Sparrow.”
The storyline in “Hear My Voice” musical drama is centered around Ai, a young single woman who has been deeply in love with Yuto since high school. Ai discovers, however, that Yuto is keeping secrets and may have other priorities. With advice and opinions on the subject coming from all directions, Ai starts to examine what she must do to truly be happy. With the help of friends, Ai learns the real meaning of love.
This musical features dynamic solo performances and reveals powerful emotions and a little humor that will keep the audience captivated from start to finish.
John R. Bivins Jr. and A.C. McClendon III are directing the performance, while Damon Rae Smith is the music director and William Amos performs drums. Yoko Kelly is a vocalist.
