Ichihanari Art Project is popular with artists and guests alike
The Ichihanari Art Project is under way in Ikei Village, open to artisans and visitors daily through September 1st.
Admission to the Ichihanari Art Project, which is taking place at the site of the former Ikei Elementary and Junior High School from 10 a.m. ~ 6 p.m. weekdays, and until 7 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, is free.
“Ichihanari” is the old name of Ikeijima, which is an island located on the Pacific Ocean side of Okinawa, where it is separated from the Katsuren peninsula. People in this area named it for many years. “Ichihanari Art Project”, an island revitalization plan by the art which made the “Ichihanari” the stage.
The old Ikei elementary and junior high school, which is now closed down, is utilized and exhibition of modern art works including the exhibition of holding and the work group of “handicraft exhibitions” is carried out in and outside of the school. On the other hand, guest artists and local artists make various places in a colony develop the art work of a permanent exhibition outdoors.
Visitors will enjoy calm time to flow into an island, while appreciating the art work united with the scenery of a beautiful island. Visitors who are tired from walking around island can rest in the installed cafe space, and can enjoy the beautiful scene from there. This is an art event suitable for families during this summer vacation.
