Shuri Castle King’s quarters rebuilding nears completion
Shuri Castle, the center of the Ryukyu Kingdom, and one of the designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites on Okinawa, is still partly under reconstruction. Currently, the work goes on with rebuilding the King’s private residence comprising of the King’s bedroom and three other rooms that have now reached the final stages.
On Oct. 2, workers were busy on the roof placing its 45,000 red tiles in their place. The kings’ quarters are scheduled to open to the public in March 2014.
According to officials involved in the reconstruction, the facilities under construction include the King’s living room, kitchen, the maids’ room and study. Once the construction is complete, the public will be able to experience virtually the King’s daily life.
