Last weekend saw the coming together of brilliant minds and ideas worth sharing at the TEDxRyukyu, which was held at the OIST auditorium, Nov. 9th.  In the next weeks in this column, I would like to introduce to readers some of the key people who have participated in events and activities related to and supported by the I Love Okinawa Campaign(R).

The Speak Good English Movement Japan will kick in as we prepare for the World Education Games practice month in February for the games in March. We will be challenging Okinawa to take the lead in English education in Japan.

This week, I would like to introduce one of the TEDxRyukyu speakers, Robin Rahe from Pullapproach.

Robin first helped to launch a company at the age of 23. Inspired to improve the world through commerce, she helped to scale the operations of Tegu, a social enterprise, by working jointly at their operations base in Honduras and their marketing office in the U.S.

TEGU started out with an innocent question: “Could we create a for-profit company based in Honduras that would foster a positive social impact through its business?” http://www.tegu.com

After receiving her MBA from ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, Robin co-founded Pullapproach with Pablo de Manuel Triantafilo and Nikon Rasumov. Pullapproach is a software company that scales businesses with impact to new regions; the company was selected by Singularity Labs as a company that will impact 1 billion people in the next 10 years.

This winter she will pioneer an initiative in Okinawa to bring together people from across fields such as art, science, IT, business to create and test new business ideas by going out into the community while receiving feedback from experienced mentors around the globe.

Having evaluated and mentored start-ups across Europe, South America, Asia, and the U.S., Robin is eager to share her passion for design thinking, innovation communities and regional social impact.

“Wonderful Earth” concert takes place at Tenku-no Chaya in Nanjo City.

During the TEDxRyukyu music unit “Yurai” gave a performance captivating the audience. They use world instruments and will have a live concert in Okinawa Sunday, Nov. 17^th. “Wonderful Earth” doors open at 4 p.m. and live starts at 5 p.m. at TENKU NO CHAYA part of the Hamabeno Chaya (Beach side Tea House) group in Nanjo City. This month’s third Sunday Cleanup we invite divers to collect trash at Cape Maeda and bring it up to the Cape Maeda Visitor’s Center between 13:00 and 15:00.  If you dive early, collect the trash and deposit it in the bins behind the office in order for us to count and tally what was collected to be counted in this year’s International Coastal Cleanup.
