Ribbon celebrates 50th anniversary

Ribbon is located in its own three-story building in Naha’s Omoromachi district.

Okinawa’s largest store specializing in ingredients for everything from sweets to baking bread, food and packaging giant Ribbon is celebrating its Golden Anniversary.

Baking and packaging supplies for any occasion.

The Naha-based company, which was only a store that supplied to other businesses when it opened its doors 50 years ago, heeded customer requests to open their doors to the public, with reasonable prices.  Business has prospered, with the store catering to customer needs for not only the high quality ingredients and tools, but also wrapping materials, too.

For the last 30 years, Ribbon has been serving customers directly, offering easy to make mixes for muffins, pancakes and cookies. Cookie mixes come as frozen dough, making it simple for customers to cut it and toss it in the oven. A Ribbon official says this is one of the company’s most popular items.

As the store name says, there’s a ribbon to decorate any gift packet.

With the holiday season in full swing, Ribbon has a large variety of Christmas decorations and wrapping materials. All products are one of a kind and can only be found at Ribbon. “The most popular stay a short time on the shelves,” says a company officer, “so we recommend you come before they are all gone.”

Once a month Ribbon holds baking classes from a professional pastry chef on the 3rd floor of their store located at 1-26-20 Ameku, in Naha City. The classes are popular and reservations are booked as soon as word gets out, so Ribbon encourages people to call (098) 863-8053 and secure a space for the next class..

Have you ever substituted an ingredient because you couldn’t find what you were looking for? Well, that is not a problem at Ribbon. Shoppers are encouraged to “see for yourself” and ask questions when dropping by. Store hours are 10 a.m. ~ 7 pm., open year-round, every day. The store accepts yen only.
