Breathtaking view that had to be shared

True to its name, Green Green offers lunch and dinners in the midst of lush vegetation, especially on its outdoor patio tables.

It began as a love of nature, when a man discovered a piece of land in Kitanakagusuku with a phenomenal view and bought it to build a home.

Build it he did, but after a short time he realized the view was too spectacular to keep to himself, so he converted his home into a restaurant, opening café Green Green in 2008.  The Asian cuisine is alone worth the visit, but the breathtaking view from inside, with its large windows and a spacious dining room, provides the ambience for a relaxing meal.  There’s also a deck where patrons can enjoy their meal outdoors, even traipsing down the stairs to a garden on the adjacent yard.

Green Green Apple Pie a la Mode is a dessert to write home about.

Café Green Green’s dishes are made from local products, and they come with plenty of vegetables. There’s even soy meat for vegetarians. Some of the most popular dishes are the weekly menu meals, and a chicken broth and herb-based Vietnamese Pho, which has a combination of both simple and rich flavors, a perfectly satisfying taste combination. For those with a sweet-tooth, there’s the hot-out-of- the-oven apple pie topped with more than one scoop of ice cream, which most customers share with each other. This Valentine’s Day weekend, Feb. 14th through 16th, this dessert will be rearranged in a special way, and Dai Motomura, Green Green’s Manager, promises it to be “like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.”

Also being served is the popular trendy fermented juice made of organic vegetables and local fruits.

Chicken broth and herb-based Vietnamese Pho is one of Green Green’s perennial favorites.

Patrons can add this drink to their meal, and Motomura recommends it. He also assures patrons “We welcome both meat and vegetable-loving customers, and customers of different religions too.”

On the same grounds as the café, there is also a garden where Green Green has planted potatoes, green vegetables and various types of herbs. These are harvested and used for the dishes. Motomura says eventually all vegetables will be grown in the garden.

The café can be reserved for wedding receptions or birthday parties. There are various party plans with different prices, but Café Green Green also has a program where patrons can bring their own food as well. “Any celebration at this beautiful location,” says Motomura, “is one you will never forget.” Café Green Green is open weekdays 11:30 a.m. ~ 5:30 p.m., with last orders at 4:30 p.m.  On weekends and holidays, the café opens at 11 a.m. and is open until 8:30 p.m. with last order at 7:30 p.m.  Call (098) 935-0039 for reservations. The restaurant is at 953 Toguchi in Kitanakagusuku.
