Moon Beach Yachimun Market showcases Okinawan ceramics

The exhibition takes place in the inner yard of the hotel.

The annual three-day 21st All Okinawa Yachimun Market at Hotel Moon Beach Inner Exhibition Hall is an established venue to purchase quality ceramic products at prices that everyone can afford.

The market runs tomorrow through Sunday and is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Shisa in all forms and shapes is a peren-nial favorite of Okinawa pottery shows.

Ceramic art is highly regarded among Okinawan products. The local craftsmen themselves introduce the charm of ceramic art cultivated over centuries in a unique Okinawa tradition.  Pottery from 45 kilns will participate to this exhibit, and offer ceramics for sale.

Ceramics fans will gather to Onna Village from across Okinawa and even from the mainland, in order to make discoveries and hunt bargains on this annual market.  Organizers say the event has grown to about as big as it can get, given the number of professional craftsmen and the number of kilns on the island.

During the market, craftsmen sometimes grab a microphone on stage and present mini live music performances.
