Nanjo residents open private gardens to public

25 private gardens open gates to public viewing in Nanjo.

Every gardener takes pride in his or her labors with flowers, and residents of Nanjo City are again opening their gardens to the public to proudly share the beauty.

Many of the gardens are large and owners have clearly dedicated much time and effort on them.

This year’s spring event begins Saturday and runs through April 13th.  The residents open their gardens twice each year, once in the spring and once in the fall. To gain entrance to the gardens, a passport ticket costing ¥500 is required for adults. Children under 18 years of age can join their parents for free. The passes are sold in various places within Nanjo City including the Nanjo City Hall Ozato Branch (map: http://goo.gl/maps/XMy0x), Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo (map: http://goo.gl/maps/pznAf) and elsewhere. For more information, contact the Nanjo City Tourism Office at (098)948-4660.

There are bus tours for minimum groups of 20 people or more. For reservations or more information please contact Okinawa Tourist at 050-5533-2525 between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

This year 25 gardens are participating in the event and they can be visited between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Visitors can visit all the gardens as many times as they want during the event period with the pass they purchase. The “Open Garden” event is one of the biggest regular events in Nanjo City with more than 15,000 people taking time to see the gardens last fall.
