Ryukyu Shimpo provides free dog training classes

An expert dog trainer shows owners tricks of his trade.

Dog owners can rearrange their upcoming weekend to take advantage of a series of dog training classes being offered in Makeman, the home improvement centers.

Ryukyu Shimpo newspaper is providing the free training sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at three of Makeman DIY centers locations.  Classes are different each day, and at each location, making it possible for those who really want to give their dogs a new outlook on life to take in a number of the classes.

Owners learn secrets from how to get their pets behave to proper ways of dog massage.

Makeman Tomigusuku branch will offer classes from 10 a.m. ~ noon Friday on dog massages and potty training. Afternoon sessions from 2 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. center on dog health lectures and more potty training.  Registration is required beforehand by calling (098) 865-5200 between 10 a.m. and noon, or emailing aiken@ryukyushimpo.co.jp.  Having a Japanese speaker along is recommended for better understanding, but not required. Saturday the trainings classes move to the Makeman Urasoe branch.  Morning classes run 10 a.m. ~ noon with topics being homemade dog food and dealing with biting and a dog’s excited state.  Taking care of your dog and more dealing with biting and that excited state continue 2 p.m. ~ 4 p.m.  Advance registration is required by calling (098) 865-5200 between 10 a.m. and noon, or emailing aiken@ryukyushimpo.co.jp.  Makeman Urasoe location is at http://goo.gl/maps/5f3iu

Sunday’s free dog training classes are at the Makeman Nishihara branch. Morning classes from 10 a.m. ~ noon teach taking care of your dog, and walking your dog without a hassle.  Agility experience, and more on walking a dog without a hassle are the topics for the 2 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. classes.

Makeman officials ask that participants “Please bring your dog with you on a leash or carried.” Only dogs that have been vaccinated are allowed to participate. There is a limit of one dog per person.
