Botanical Gardens showcase Uchinaa-Hawaii-Jazz connection

The concert venue has a decidedly tropical atmosphere.

The Okinawa Botanical Gardens in Chibana, Okinawa City, is the background of a rather unusual musical event this Sunday, when its second Uchina-Hawaiian Meets Jazz events takes place starting at 11 a.m. Gates to the venue open half an hour earlier giving visitors time to sample some of the exotic plants and flowers in the famed park.

The sign of the event is appropriately made of flowers.

As the title of the event implies, it is a mix if Okinawan and Hawaiian music combned in a jazzy funk.

The curtains at the main stage open at 12 p.m. with Tamashiro Market, playing Okinawan music, then MAKALANI, Itsumi Higa, Yuko Ishikawa, DJ NU-DOH and other performers! The MC will be a well-known and funny Okinawan comedian Kawamitsu-sensee. Jazz saxophone player Akira Sakata and electric violinist Yuji Katsui are also joining the event.

Okinawa Botanical Gardens decided to organize a second event with the similar theme after the first concert ended in a raucous applaud from the audience and enthusiastic encore by the performers.

Okinawa Botanical Gardens managers say that because of the excellent response from the visitors, they are planning more concerts in the future in the tropical atmosphere.

Tickets for the concert cost ¥3,500 in advance and ¥4,000 at door and include one drink. Ample parking outside the gardens is free.
