Mini theater Geien caters to indie performers

Mini theater Geien in Oroku, Naha, is a place where independent performers can find a stage to show their talent.

According to its owners it was created as a place where front line performing artists and those who are only just up and coming can perform regardless of barriers set by certain style, tradition or cultural differences. By having this kind of borderless stage, they hope to encourage the artists and the public alike to enjoy and experience different culture from around the world. It give a place for artists of different genres to interact and that, hopefully, leads to new creativity.

This Saturday Geien features American banjo player Heyden Reynolds, who’s 21 years old explains that he already has eleven years of playing experience on stage. Almost all members of his family are entertainers, and he has played actively since he was ten.

Born in Tennessee, and currently in active military in the U.S. Air Force, he is, of course, a Blue Grass musician.

His performance at Geien starts at 5:30 p.m. with the doors to the venue opening 30 minutes earlier. Tickets are ¥2,000 in advance and ¥2,300 at door. Geien is located at 1-8-18 Oroku, Naha. For information in English, call 090-3073-6693.
