OIST Open Campus invites public to learn of aspects of science
The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology is the crown jewel of education in Okinawa, and once a year the school throws its doors open to invite the public to come and see what the institute is all about.
During its one-day open campus, the OIST organizes many events that showcase the school and its activities, including a Science Show, Science Café and Science programs that offer visitors a chance to experience first hand the wonders of science.
And as absorbing a day full of all kinds matters related to science takes energy, organizers have a variety of food booths set up on the campus to ensure that the needs of one’s body are also taken into account.
The open campus takes place on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 10:00 to 17:00 on the OIST Campus at 1919-1 Tancha, Onna. Participation to the events of the day is free, and free shuttle buses from Naha are available, but registration on-line is necessary for the shuttle bus service. Fore registration and more information, go to OIST website at www.oist.jp.
During the day, there are two lectures, both about an hour long. “Physics of the World Round Us” starts at 14:00 at the OOIST Auditorium and answers questions like, “What makes a balloon pop?” “The ways of Ants” starts at 15:30 at the Seminar Room, and delves into the secrets of these nature’s engineers.
Other programs and exhibitions include physics, underwater exploration, programming, secrets of a laboratory, robots and computers among others.
