Two Naha parks to start to impose parking fees

Naha City Government announced that it would start charging a fee for parking in two of its public parks, the Shintoshin Park and Manko Park, in Naha City. The charges will begin on an experimental basis from Apr. 1st, 2016.

Officials explain that the purpose of the charge is to take measures against long-time parking in the parks by people who do not use the parks. The experiment is scheduled to take three years, after which city officials will decide whether it would lead to full-scale implementation of similar fees in all public park parking areas in the city.

According to the plan, the parking will be free for the first hour and cost ¥100yen per hour after the first one hour. The income from the parking lots will be earmarked for operation and maintenance of the park facilities.
