A photo exhibition titled “Nature Therapy” featuring pictures of underwater creatures and hermit crabs living in their adopted homes of beach trash.

The exhibition will be held at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) starting today and running through Feb. 29. The free exhibition is open from 9:00 to 17:00 every day at the corridor of the Level C, Center Building.

The exhibition consists of photos taken by wildlife photographer and naturalist Shawn Miller who specializes in capturing the flora and fauna of Okinawa, both on land and underwater. He has documented rare and endemic species of the island in his own unique way. He specializes in creating motion in still photographs, fluorescence photography, environmental awareness and protection of endangered species. His pictures have been recently on display in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural history, and published in the National Geographic Magazine.

Miller who’s been a resident of Okinawa for more than 20 years says, “The more we learn about nature the more we want to protect it.” He wants his imagery to inspire viewers to think “I’ve got to see this for myself!” and encourage people to get outdoors and see the beauty of Okinawa themselves.
