GODAC offers free ROV pilot training

Japan’s Global Oceanographic Data Center, commonly known as GODAC, located at Toyohara, Nago City is known for its educational programs aimed especially at young people during the frequents open house events the institute organizes several times a year.

One of its most popular devices is called ROV that stands for a robotic ocean vehicle. It’s an unmanned mini submarine that is controlled from the surface as it roams the depths of the ocean.

The data center is now offering a ROV pilot training course on the GODAC building’s patio on July 2nd and 3rd.The ROV was created by GODAC engineers for shooting deep sea videos for the institute’s exploration purposes. During the course, GODAC’s experts teach participants for free about its tasks and how to control it.

GODAC organizes the training three times a year, and persons who take the training have chance to take the final examination in February. After passing the examination, they can get a ROV controller’s license.

A training course for persons who have never taken training before takes place on Saturday, Jul. 2nd.

Sunday, Jul. 3rd is reserved for people who have been taking part in previous training. They must bring their training book and the GODAC membership card.

The training sessions are conducted three times on both days, and participants can choose one that suits their schedule. The sessions are at 10:00 to 12:00
, 13:00 to 14:30
 and 15:00 to 16:30. Participation is limited to the first 25 people each time, and would be participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes before training session begins.
