Urasoe man arrested for stalking

Urasoe Police arrested a 36-year-old Urasoe man on suspicion of violating the nation’s recently revised anti-stalking laws.

According to Police, 36-year-old Shinichi Komuda was arrested Thursday after he was found loitering in the vicinity of the house of his female acquaintance. Police suspect that he had been watching the house on Jan. 23 from 2:30 a.m. to past following midnight. Komuda is reportedly, denying part of the charge.

Under the revised anti-stalking control law, loitering or prowling in a particular target location is a crime. This is reportedly the first case the law has been applied to in Okinawa. Urasoe Police had consulted the female victim before the arrest, and they also had warned Komuda before.
