5-month-old baby abused to death in Ginowan City

Ginowan Police arrested 25-year-old Muneaki Sanada, Thursday, on suspicion of causing an injury resulting in the death of a 5-month-old baby girl.

Sanada is suspected to have violently shaken 5-month-old Yukiya Kinjo, the child of Sanada’s live-in girlfriend, a little before midnight on July 19, 2016. The baby girl was taken to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, and died on Aug. 10. The cause of death was hypoxic encephalopathy caused by lack of oxygen after cerebral hemorrhage. The Prefectural Police is continuing the investigation into the bay’s death, suspecting a possibility that Sanada shook the baby violently.

According to police, Sanada lived together with the bay and her mother in an apartment at the time of the incident. Investigators say that the bay had been shaken around 11 p.m. on July 19 after the girlfriend had left the apartment. Sanada reportedly told investigators, “I may have done it,” adding “When I tried to wake the baby up, she did not answer.”

The hospital where the baby had been taken reportedly contacted the Prefectural Police, stating, “A baby with possible brain damage was transferred to us,” and later confirmed their initial diagnosis. A specialist judged that the cause of death was an external injury.

Police started the investigation because only Sanada and the baby were in the apartment when the injury to the baby occurred.
