Kokusai Street to be closed for bomb disposal Saturday
An unexploded U.S. made bomb from WWII weighing 50 kilograms was unearthed at a construction site in Matsuo 2-chome, Naha City, Wednesday. The disposal of the bomb is scheduled for Saturday.
During the disposal, residents and workers in nearby areas will be evacuated starting 9:30 a.m., and the traffic around the site, including a part of Kokusai Street, will be stopped from 10:20 a.m.
According to Naha City Office, the traffic stoppage on Kokusai Street because of a bomb disposal is the first since Sep. 2004.
The evacuation zone covers an area within a radius of 166 meters from the site.
Local emergency headquarters will be established at Naha City Office, and the first and second floors of the office will be tuned into a temporary shelter for the day.
