Okinawa Soba celebrated at Motobu Kariyushi Market Saturday

17 October is the Day of Okinawa Soba, and “the 7th Okinawa Soba Fair” is scheduled for Motobu Kariyushi Market parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 14, where 1,000 bowls of original Okinawa Soba made with local Motobu ingredients will be on sale.

Motobu Town Camber of Commerce declared the town the “Town of Okinawa Soba” in 2010. In 2017, the chamber published 6,000 copies of “Soba Map” containing information of some 77 Okinawa Soba restaurants within the town. This year, they have added OQ-codes to the map that makes it easy to locate the restaurants on smart phones or car navigation systems.

Eiji Hokama, the chairman of the Chamber, says, “Motobu has gained notoriety as the Town of Soba. We are inviting as many people as possible to come to our town to enjoy Okinawa Soba.”

A book of six coupons that can be used to pay for the soba at the fair costs ¥1,000. The fair runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until supplies last). For more information, call Motobu Town Chamber of Commerce at 0980-47-2749.
