Man arrested for putting stuffed wolf up for auction
Okinawa Prefectural Police, Prefectural Living and Safety Division, has sent to the Public Prosecutors’ Office a case of a 69-year-old Ginowan man who is suspected of violating the Endangered Species Preservation Act.
The man is suspected of putting a stuffed wolf that he owned up for auction on a website from Feb. 29th through Mar. 7th, 2016.
This is reportedly the first time anyone has been prosecuted in Okinawa citing advertising regulations.
The man is a dealer of recycled goods, and according to the Prefectural Police, he knew that advertising a stuffed wolf would violate the law.
The Endangered Species Preservation Act allows advertising such items if one registers with the Ministry of Environment to get a permission. However, the man failed to apply for the permission.
The man reportedly has owned the stuffed wolf for about ten years.
